Speak up for frankenchickens

Mass Lobby Day 2026 | Westminster | Tuesday 10 November

Nearly a billion chickens are raised for meat in the UK every year. Almost all of them are frankenchickens: birds bred to grow so fast their bodies cannot keep up. They struggle to walk. Many suffer from the day they hatch to the day they are slaughtered.

In last year's Animal Welfare Strategy, the government signalled that it wants to support a transition away from frankenchickens. It has not said what that transition would look like, or when it would happen.

Most of the billion chickens farmed here each year are fast-growing breeds.

On 10 November, we are going to Westminster to demand action.

Meet your own MP, face to face

James meets his MP at the 2025 Mass Lobby Day.

Voters from across the UK travel to Westminster on the same day and meet their own MPs in person. You tell them, in your own words, why this matters to you. Then you ask them to act.

MPs answer to the people who elect them. When they hear the same message from voter after voter in a single day, it becomes very hard to ignore.

They asked their MPs to end the cage age for laying hens and pigs. Within months, the government confirmed that its plan was to ban those cages in the Animal Welfare Strategy.

There are 650 constituencies. Every one of them has a farmed animal story and an MP who has to listen. This year we want to be bigger and louder, and put frankenchickens on the agenda in Parliament.
